Cabo San Lucas, Mexico - Capella Pedregal showcases top culinary talent for five day festival, ‘A Taste of Capella’
Capella Pedregal, Cabo San Lucas’ premier luxury resort, is bringing together master chefs for its inaugural wine and food festival, A Taste of Capella, July 11-15, 2012. By booking the A Taste of Capella package, guests will spend five unforgettable days sampling exquisite cuisine and taking part in educational gastronomical experiences at the 96 room and suite luxury resort in Cabo San Lucas. Activities include cooking demonstrations; wine and cheese tastings; 5-course dinner (each course expertly prepared by a different chef); parties on the beach with chef-prepared food stations, and more.
For their inaugural wine and food festival, Capella Pedregal will tap the talents of top chefs from across the U.S. Rounding out the festival’s culinary A-team is Chef Kent Rathbun, owner and head chef of restaurants Abacus, Jasper’s and Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen, with locations throughout Texas; Chef Johnny Iuzzini, celebrity judge of Bravo’s hit tv show Top Chef Desserts; Chef Kevin Rathbun, renowned for Atlanta-based restaurants Rathbun’s and Kevin Rathbun Steak & Krog Bar; Capella Pedregal’s own accomplished Executive Chef, Marco Bustamante and more.

In 1997, Chef Kent Rathbun opened his first restaurant Abacus in Dallas, Texas, which went on to receive numerous accolades. With this five-star restaurant exceeding expectations, Rathbun opened his second concept, Jasper’s, which boasts three locations in Texas - Plano, The Woodlands, and Austin –focusing on the best of America’s regional cuisine. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, Chef Johnny Iuzzini joined the pastry department of Chef Daniel Boulud’s original Daniel restaurant in Manhattan. After several years of experience working with top chefs like Boulud and Francois Payard, Chef/ Owner Jean Georges Vongerichten named Johnny the Executive Pastry Chef at his famed Restaurant Jean Georges. Johnny also joined Vongerichten as Executive Pastry Chef of his newest restaurant, Perry Street. After 30 years in the restaurant business, Chef Kevin Rathbun opened his namesake restaurant, Rathbun’s, in 2004 in Atlanta. The creation of Krog Bar, a Spanish-inspired wine bar and Kevin Rathbun Steak, an old cotton warehouse turned into a top-ranked steakhouse, quickly followed due to the increasing popularity of Rathbun’s exquisite cuisine. Chef Marco Bustamante brings his fine dining expertise in five diamond and Michelin-rated establishments to Capella Pedregal. Bustamante’s previous experience includes working at the The Russian Tea Room in New York; Victor’s, the Ritz Carlton New Orleans’ AAA rated five-diamond dining establishment; as well as Thomas Keller’s Per Se in New York. In 2004, he began his tenure with the West Paces Hotel Group, parent company of Capella Hotels and Resorts and joined Capella Pedregal as Executive Chef upon its opening in 2009.
