Insistence of Very Finest Quality Reflected in Materials, Furnishing, Décor and Priceless Art Collection

WASHINGTON, D.C., - When the long anticipated Capella Washington, D.C., Georgetown, opens its doors in late March, guests will experience a sophisticated yet warm and welcoming design aesthetic that reflects both the hotel’s location in Washington’s most historic and exclusive neighborhood and Capella Hotels and Resorts’ commitment to the very finest quality in décor, materials, furnishings and fine arts. The intimate 49-room hotel is the creation of Peter Silling of Peter Silling & Associates Hotel Interior Design Ltd.

“We chose Peter, in part, because of his great success with another iconic Capella hotel, the Breidenbacher Hof in Dusseldorf, Germany. He is creating a masterpiece for us here in Washington, one that inspires a sense of elegance, intimacy and sophistication – a feeling of being in a most extraordinary and welcoming home,” said developer Bruce F. Bradley of Castleton Hotel Partners I, LLC, the property’s owner. “We are delighted with the collaboration and the refined manner in which he expressed our vision. Every element has been meticulously considered.”

“Capella Washington, DC is a fascinating project because of its intricate design and the thought process behind it” said Peter Silling. “We brought together many elements, old and new, to create a luxurious environment that is assured to captivate our guests.”

Some examples include:

• A Presidential Suite with six-and-a-half foot solid marble round bathtubs

• A private rooftop lounge featuring an indoor/outdoor relaxation pool, built in fireplace and sweeping views of the Potomac River, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Washington Monument

• A Capella Living Room with 18 foot ceilings and stone and metal fireplace

• A high-gloss wood and onyx bar with floor to ceiling glass and views of the historic C&O Canal

• A museum-quality collection of original contemporary art featuring such notable artists as the renowned abstract expressionist Edvins Strautmanis, contemporary German artist Markus Lüpertz, English glass sculptor Collin Reid, and US modern painter Carl Virgo

• Antique parquet wood flooring reclaimed from a European castle placed in the Grill Room, the Rye Bar and the Capella Living Room

• Special marble and metal laser-cut flooring in the lobby area

• European handmade upholstery

• Handcrafted European leather and wood paneling throughout the property

Guests of the new property will also have around-the-clock access to a signature Capella Personal Assistant; complimentary refreshment center; complimentary laundry pressing service of up to five pieces upon arrival; complimentary Wi-Fi and innovative programming to ensure guests are fully immersed in the D.C. culture and way of life. Special guest services will include private after-hours shopping in the city’s most exclusive stores; guided tours of Washington’s newest and hottest attractions including backstage access to the Washington Ballet.

Peter Silling began his pursuit of art and design while growing up in Munsterland, the heart of Germany’s furniture industry. After working in Milan and studying hotel design in America and Germany, he opened his first studios in the U.S., Cologne, Germany, and then Hong Kong. With a strong presence in Asia, including India and Vietnam, he has gone on to imprint his unique sensibilities on hotels in Europe, Russia, the Middle East and the Maldives. The Capella Washington D.C. is Silling’s third for the Capella brand, including the Breidenbacher Hof in Germany and an upcoming new resort in Mexico’s Riviera Maya.
