The heart of our urban sanctuary are the one, two and three-bedroom Shikumen Villas, which blend historical Shanghainese courtyard living with Parisian design flair. When staying in Jian Ye Li guests will be looked after by our team of knowledgeable personal assistants who are there to provide bespoke experiences tailored to each stay.
Originally built during the 1930s, the shikumen villas housed middle-upper class traders and expatriates working in Shanghai. In 1945, the area was transformed into a residential area for local Shanghainese and became a hive of activity around the narrow lanes. The contemporary elegance of the villa’s newly designed interiors contrast with Chinoiserie accents, an expression of heritage and modern indulgence.
A fusion of traditional architecture and modern luxury.
Our Deluxe Shikumen Villas look out across the lush greenery meandering around the traditional architecture, and inside embody the history we are proud to protect, contrasted with modern details and design flair. French-accented furniture, elements of Chinoiserie and a soothing palette of colour and materials make up these private sanctuaries.
Your private retreat within our urban sanctuary.
With interiors created by Jaya International Design, our Shikumen Grand Villas recreate an exclusive 1930s communal living experience. Step inside and discover an elegant blend of French-inspired furniture and elements of intricate Chinoiserie. The space is curated through rhythm and symmetry to provide generous space to relax in and retreat to, accented by intricate wall paintings and artwork.
