Covid 19 - Our Commitment to Health & Wellbeing: Details

Refine your photography skills and capture Insta-worthy images as you explore some of Shanghai’s lesser-known neighbourhoods from behind the camera lens.

Shanghai is arguably one of the world’s most photogenic cities. Put this theory to the test, as you pound the pavements with a locally based photographer and learn to capture professional-standard images as a relic of your stay at Capella Shanghai.

The vibrant city of Shanghai is a true embodiment of the term ‘East meets West;’ Buddhist temples, serene gardens, and shikumen townhouses stand beside opulent Shanghai shopping malls and towering skyscrapers, which form one of the world’s most recognizable skylines. Point, Shoot, Retouch, will give you the opportunity to explore this fascinating metropolis, guided by a true local. Throughout the experience, you will be shown to the city’s best-kept, most Instagrammable experiences and taught the essentials in order to be able to capture professional-standard images.

Shanghai-based professional photographer, Mr Wang, who will guide you on your shutter-happy mission was given his first camera by his father when he was just 8 years old, and quickly became obsessed with photography ‘due to its uncertainty’ and the adventure that comes alongside it. Prior to becoming a photographer, Mr Wang worked as a labourer, and though he couldn’t afford his own camera at this time, he would frame moments in his memory – a sea of young workers carrying baskets of mud, the wrinkles on his grandmother’s face – this process allowed him to develop a deep appreciation for capturing the perfect image.

Throughout the experience, you will be shown to the city’s best-kept, most Instagrammable experiences and taught the essentials in order to be able to capture professional-standard images.

Your Point, Shoot, Retouch experience will begin on property; originally built during the 1930s, the shikumen villas at Capella Shanghai blend historical Shangainese courtyard living with Parisian design flair. Mr Wang will then guide you through Xujiahui, our local neighbourhood, to the rambling Xujiahui Park. The picturesque hideaway boasts manicured lawns and stunning water features, which are sure to be ‘like’-worthy additions to your social media channels.

The final spot on your hunt for Shanghai’s most beautiful spots to capture will be the Heng-Fu Landscape Area; filled with tree-lined avenues, hipster cafés, and quirky antique stores, Heng-Fu Landscape Area has a chaotic charm. ith a helping hand from Mr Wang, you’ll be able to capture the beauty of them yourself.
